UHS and Oxford University to carry out joint project on Corona Virus

The recent BOGs meeting of UHS approved a joint agreement to take place between Oxford University and University of Health Sciences. The agreement includes a joint execution of the project in which the existing treatments shall be examined and how an adjustment could be brought in to treat Corona Virus. It will also be aimed at capacity building of the local scientists. Board members were briefed by VC, Prof. Javed Akram on the steps taken under the banner of UHS to curb the spread of COVID – 19.

The main aim of the management has been to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) to the health workers. Currently, UHS have the capacity to manufacture 9,000 PPEs on daily basis. UHS has been constantly providing PPEs to the health workers all across Punjab, Balochistan and Gilgit – Baltistan. Telemedicine centers are also made operative which are engaged in providing 24/7 services. So far the center has received over 90,000 calls with majorly linking to psychiatrists and clinical psychologists. The donation of private sector has been very helpful in this time of crisis. Lastly, the board also approved the initiation of a degree program, Masters in Health Informatics.
