The Government College University turns 154

The government college university is one of the oldest universities of Pakistan which has turned 154. The university was founded on January 1, 1864 as the college of liberal arts and sciences, the college tuned university has served brilliantly in the country’s education sector. 
The college started with just three professors and 19 students now has 12,000 enrolled students and offering graduate and postgraduate degrees in no less than 37 different disciplines. 
Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, Faiz Ahmad Faiz, N.M Rashid, Patras Bukhari, Ashfaq Ahmad, Qudsia Bano; Nobel Laureates Prof Dr Abdus Salam and Prof Dr Hargobind Khorana, Chief Justice M. R. Kyani, Chief Justice Naseem Hassan Shah and incumbent Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar are among famous Ravians.
Punjab Chief Minister Main Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, former Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and former Army Chief General Raheel Sharif also studied at the university. 
Famous Bollywood actor Dev Anand, Rafi Peer, Syed Imtiaz Ali Taj, Shafqat Amanat Ali, Ali Zafar, Hadiqa Kyani and Jawad Ahmad have also studied in this institution. 
A ceremony titled as Founders’ Day was held at the campus in which VC of GCU and other faculty gathered, cut a cake and paid their gratitude to the founders of the university.
