PU VC resigns instead of giving land on Govt orders

Vice Chancellor of Punjab University Zaffar Mueen Nasar left the seat on Friday due to government’s orders of giving university’s land to a religious party.

Talking to the media Mr Nasar said that he has been facing immense pressure from authoritative people to give two-Kanal land of the university’s old campus. The land of sports ground has been asked for a religious party to construct a seminary.

A resolution was also passed against the proposed land by the PU Academic Staff Association saying that under PU act, the land can be used only for academic purposes.

The incident like this happened back in 1997 when the VC of PU resigned instead of giving four-marla land for the construction of road.
