A network of private schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) with the name of Private Education Network Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (PENKP) has announced to open all private schools from 15th August. This decision will be applicable for the entire private schools across the province. President of PENKP said that the opening of institutes from 15th September is too late of a decision, hence, there is a need to open these institutes at their earliest. He registered his concerns too while interacting to the media that why are schools not being opened when shopping malls and public transport has been functioning to its full capacity.
On a particular question of media persons, President PENKP said that private schools can also work in strict SOPs if other sectors can. He said that government might have announced the opening of schools from 15th September but still dependent on the improvement of situation as decided by National Command Operation Center (NCOC). In the meantime, there are huge number of Madrassahs in KP which are about to open right after Eid holidays with examination already started. A senior leader of Jamat-e-Ulama-e-Islam has also supported the idea of opening of madrassahs as soon as possible.
This decision has been taken right after the rejection of petition by Islamabad High Court (IHC). Petition was concerned with the reopening of schools across the country. Chief Justice of IHC, Athar Minallah gave remarks that they are not the right people to approach for resolving the petitioner’s concern. Hence, petitioner was directed to approach the right forum. Despite all of these remarks, Chief Justice IHC dismissed the case but granted permission to schools in the capital city to start their administrative affairs with keeping academic affairs relevant as per the instructions of Education Ministry.
