Prime Minister forms a committee to appoint HEC chairman

The Prime Minster of Pakistan Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has formed a committee comprising of six members to choose a new head of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.

The job term of current chief of the HEC, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed will come to an end on 15th of April.

The government has formed a committee which will find out a new chairman for the HEC, a notification said.

Syed Babar Ali, a famous Pakistani businessman, philanthropist and former finance minister has been appointed as the convener of the committee formed by the PM.

Former health minister, health expert and activist Dr Sania Nishtar; educationist Faisal Bari; former parliamentarian Shahnaz Wazir Ali; Mirza Qamar Baig and the secretary of the education ministry are included in other members of the committee.

The committee will finalize three names for the vacant position and PM will have the final say. It will be fourth chairman after the establishment of HEC.
