An ad-hoc council has been formulated by The Supreme Court of Pakistan which will be headed by Justice (rtd.) Ejaz Afzal Khan. The primary purpose of this council will be to run the management of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).
The decision was made in the light of petitions filed by Secretary, Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination. The bench had reserved the order on April 15, 2020 but announced it a day before. The Supreme Court of Pakistan nullified the orders made by Islamabad High Court (IHC). The council will include Attorney General of Pakistan, Federal Secretary Health, Surgeon General of Pakistan Armed Forces, VCs of National University of Medical Sciences, University of Health Sciences, Khyber Medical College, Bolan University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jinnah Sindh Medical University, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University and Principal of De’ Montmorency College of Dentistry.
President of the council with joint agreement of all will appoint a Registrar in the very first meeting. The former registrar has been instructed to hand over the entire record to Secretary Health. Attorney General is made responsible for holding meetings and Secretary Health is to provide all support and coordination for scheduling the first meeting of the council.
