PMDC is illegal: Lahore High Court

The Lahore High Court, on Thursday, allowed private medical colleges to give admissions to the students independently.

The court has declared the Central Induction Policy null and formation of PMDC illegal. It has also directed the federal government to conduct new elections of PMDC within 90 days. The Council of Common Interests (CCI) was directed by the High Court to review the existing laws of PMDC and form new laws in next six months.

The Central Induction Policy of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) was also nullified by the High Court. The medical colleges are now allowed to carry on with their regular admission process for the upcoming session.

The decision came out of the case filed by private medical colleges against the PMDC stating that the policies of PMDC prevent them to rightfully give admission to the students.

The fact is worth mentioning that in 34 private medical colleges of the province, there are 2700 MBBS seats and 625 Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) seats available.
