New Promotion Policy announced by Education Ministry

The recommendations have finally been approved unanimously by Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) and same has been agreed in National Curriculum Council. The decision was made in the inter-provincial ministers’ conference under the banner of Education Ministry. The final decision consists of promoting the four million students without any examination. No exam will be conducted due to the current lockdown situation but there will be a different policy for certain students. New promotion policy adjusts the concerns of all educational boards too as all the students of class 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th; will be awarded 3% extra marks.

In addition to that, students failing in less than 40% subjects in either 9th or 11th class will be promoted by giving a passing grade. A special exam will be conducted during the months of September to November for four different categories, A, B, C and D. Category A will be for the improvers, who are not satisfied with 11th class results. Category B will be the ones who had to appear for composite exams. Category C will be for improvers of few subjects and lastly, students who had failed in more than 40% of the subjects will be Categiry D.

Responsibility has been given to all educational boards that they shall inform the government regarding the number of students in each category by 1st July. However, the matriculation exams conducted in Punjab will be considered with policy statement to be announced regarding the practical papers. Sindh Government will follow a similar policy as laid down by the Federal Government. Lastly, Federal Education Minister, Shafqat Mahmood praised the efforts of Dr. Shahzad Jiva, Chairman of IBCC in developing a joint consensus.
