Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal has confirmed a public holiday on February 5th on account of Kashmir Day. A notification was issued on January 10th for announcing a countrywide holiday.
The announcement was made to keep all governmental and semi-governmental offices and educational institutions close in order to express solidarity and unity with the people of Kashmir. As February 5th is coming on Monday this year, the employees will get a long weekend.
This non-working day was suggested by Qazi Hussain Ahmad of Jamaat-e-Islami party back in 1990 in order to show the harmony with Kashmiri people.
