Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal has confirmed a public holiday on February 5^th on account of Kashmir Day. A notification was issued on January 10^th for announcing a countrywide holiday.

The announcement was made to keep all governmental and semi-governmental offices and educational institutions close in order to express solidarity and unity with the people of Kashmir. As February 5^th is coming on Monday this year, the employees will get a long weekend.

This non-working day was suggested by Qazi Hussain Ahmad of Jamaat-e-Islami party back in 1990 in order to show the harmony with Kashmiri people.
