A recent announcement by Governor Punjab, Ch. Muhammad Sarwar said that all universities shall include teaching of Holy Quran as compulsory in their syllabi. However, the decision was to be implemented by the end of holy month. GCU Lahore, irrespective of that fact has taken the lead and started the teaching of Holy Quran to its students. One of the renowned names of the university, Mr. Hafiz Muhammad Azmat delivered the first lecture of Holy Quran through Facebook Live and official YouTube channel of GCU.
Many of the students will not know the fact that GCU had been teaching Holy Quran previously but now this decade old tradition has been revived. The initiation of classes has been taken under the executive orders of VC, Dr. Zaidi. He said that it is a pride for GCU to host scholars like Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, Maulana Tariq Jamil and Javed Ahmed Ghamidi in past. He further added by saying that universities are responsible for character building of the society, hence, we advise other universities to replicate the model of GCU. The teaching of Holy Quran was based on Dars e Quran in which first lecture was conducted on Piety known as Taqwa in Islam.
