Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar took suo motu notice of the construction of marriage halls within the premises of Punjab University.

The Chief Justice has asked for an answer from Lahore Development Authority over the construction of these halls on the university’s land.

 “On what basis have commercial engagements been allowed to carry out within the vicinity of the varsity,” the Chief Justice questioned the authorities.

The university has also been surrounded by management crisis and land grabbing mafias as the government had ordered the university to give the land of the old campus to a political party. The vice-chancellor of the university had resigned over the land issue which the government has accepted.

Chief Justice also questioned the failure in the appointment of a vice-chancellor in last 2.5 years. The university should appoint the most senior professor as interim vice chancellor, Chief Justice remarked.
