Another opportunity for students who have been denied admission to medical colleges

Due to untimely uploading of lists of successful students, more than 28% or about 5,873 seats in public and private medical and dental colleges remained vacant. Deprived students will be given a chance.

According to the report, the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) has approved a special policy to fill the vacancies for the medical vadental degree session of 2021-22. If not uploaded, they will be allowed to upload it till February 18.

After 18th February, the PMC will give these vacant seats to the eligible students who have not been admitted. A one-time appointment will be made as per merit to ensure that all the admissions are completed by 28th February. There are 1,331 vacancies in Punjab, 72 in Balochistan, 58 in Islamabad and 51 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Last year, the PMC informed the public and private medical and dental colleges about the process, duration and conduct of admissions for the session 2021-22 through the Medical and Dental Undergraduate Education (Admission, Curriculum and Conduct) Regulations 2021. According to the regulations, private and public sector colleges had to strictly adhere to the admissions deadline. However, despite numerous warnings from the PMC to complete the admissions on time, 873 (28.31%) seats remained vacant.

Out of 3,682 seats available in private and government dental colleges, 1,936 (52.6%) seats remained vacant till the last date of admissions while out of 17,065 seats in public and private medical colleges, 3,937 (23.07%) seats remained vacant. Apparently 78% (3,078 seats) of vacancies in medical colleges are in government medical colleges and 47% (917) seats in government dental colleges remained vacant due to non-adherence to last date of admission.

At a meeting of the Medical and Dental Council on 15 February, after consultation with the college administration, the council unanimously agreed to review the lists uploaded by each private and public medical and dental college and to resolve any student grievances. Subsequent admissions to the vacant seats will be made under the vacancy policy.
