After Multan, Bahawalpur and DG Khan, the Education Department of Punjab has also opened a transgender school in Lahore.
50 transgenders have enrolled in the school and started studying while the transgenders are being taught by trained teachers.
A school has been opened for the transgender community at Government Girls High School Barkat Market in Garden Town, after this initiative of the Punjab Education Department, transgenders living in Lahore will also be able to study.
Speaking on the occasion of the inauguration of the Transgender School, Provincial Education Minister Murad Ras said that books, bags, uniforms, transport and other facilities will be provided free of cost to the transgender students.
He said that more such schools will also be opened, in addition to education, transgenders will be taught sewing, cooking, and other skills in the transgender school.
He said that the Punjab government will bear the PhD expenses of Alisha Shiraz, a transgender scholar who is doing PhD in Education from Bahauddin Zakaria University.
Well-known fashion designer Hasan Shehryar said that there is talk about transgender women from home to home but nothing is done for their welfare.
