Qudrat Ullah Shahab, The Mysterious Man

 

The History of Pakistan is full of incredible writers. The poets and writers of Urdu Literature have filled beautiful colors to Urdu pros and poems. Qudrat Ullah Shahab was a unique writer who has lived the life very close to the political establishment. He has observed the rise and fall of the government up close and played an eminent role in the development of political culture.

Qudrat Ullah Shahab was born on 26th February 1917 in Gilgit being born at the house of Abdullah Sahib. His father was publically famous. Abdullah Sahib had studied in Muhammad Anglo-Oriental College under the supervision of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. He was living in Aligarh later he shifted to Gilgit. Qudrat Ullah Shahab was very keen observer and a brilliant writer since his early age. He at first time wrote for Readers Digest, London, winning the competition at the age of 16 years he became popular in masses.

Qudrat Ullah Shahab completed his school to take admission in Prince of Wales College. He completed his graduation from the college. Shahab was always interested in exploring more from the life and he became the first Muslim from Jammu and Kashmir to qualify for Indian Civil Services in 1941. He was the only person to have an experience in bureaucracy before the establishment of independent state for the Muslims of British India.

 Qudrat Ullah remained the principal Secretary of state for three major players on Pakistani Politics. He started his services for as principal Secretary for General Ghulam Muhammad at first and remained on the same status for first president of Pakistan Iskander Mirza and later also for military leader Ayub Khan. His political career did not end with the end of the distinction of principal secretary. In 1962 he gave the service as the Ambassador of Pakistan for Netherlands. Later he was also appointed as education secretary of Pakistan. In his political career he has also served as Information Secretary of Pakistan.

Qudrat Ullah Shahad has spent his complete life in the circle of elites of political system of Pakistan. He narrated his life and struggles with political regimes in his autobiograpghy named as Shahab Nama. the book has received tremendous success throughout Pakistan. Shahad Nama is considered as a must read for all the people. The writing style of the book is humor but it covers many serious issues of Pakistan and it administration. The book is capable of making the reader laugh and cry at the same time.

The other books written by Qudrat Ullah Shahab includes Ya Khuda novel, Man ji short story, Surkh Fitah short story and Nafsane short stories. He also wrote essays for the students one of his famous essays is Pathans in which he wrote about Pakhtoon community of Pakistan. Qudrat Ullah Shahab is known for his humor and satire.He was honored by the government of Pakistan on 23rd March 2013 by issuing Pakistan Post stamp with denomination of Rs. 15 and titiled under “Men of Letters “series.
